| Eastern State Penitentiary - Catholic Chaplain's Office Client Eastern State Penitentiary Location Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Structure The Eastern State Penitentiary Catholic Chaplain’s office is a small building originally constructed in the 1880s as an office for the prison Warden. When the space was reconfigured to house the Catholic Chaplain’s office, inmate Lester Smith was invited to paint murals along the walls of the office. The space is currently in a state of severe deterioration, and S. Harris Ltd. has been retained to assist with the second phase, building stabilization, of this three phase restoration. In order to create museum-like conditions for this space, S. Harris Ltd. will provide design, documentation and construction administration services for the interior stabilization and rehabilitation, restoration of the roof and skylights, as well as installation of a climate control system. Work is expected to be complete in the summer of 2011. |
